Chores in your calendar

Plan your household chores in Google Calendar

In Google Calendar you plan household chores with recurring events or tasks: one block per theme, at a set time in the week. Give household blocks their own colour and choose whether they show as busy or available. If you want a planner to plan around your appointments, share your calendar through the secret iCal address.

Make a recurring block

  1. New eventClick the time you want in Google Calendar, or click Create. Give it a clear name, such as "Paperwork".
  2. RepeatChoose, for example, weekly on Wednesday, or set something else under custom, such as every two weeks.
  3. Busy or availableChoose whether others see you as busy during this block.
  4. ColourGive household blocks one colour. Then you see how much of your week goes on them.
  5. NotificationA notification shortly before helps you start. If you would rather have peace, leave it out.

Connect your calendar through the secret iCal address

Planners such as SortYourMind read Google Calendar through the secret address in iCal format. You only find that address on a computer, not in the app on your phone.

  1. Open the settingsOn a computer, go to Google Calendar and click the gear icon, then Settings.
  2. Choose your calendarOn the left under Settings for my calendars, click the calendar you want to share.
  3. Integrate calendarScroll to Integrate calendar and copy the secret address in iCal format.
  4. Paste it into the plannerIn SortYourMind you paste it when you connect your calendar.

Keep it secret

Anyone with this address can read your calendar. Only share it with a service you trust. If it has leaked, reset it in the same place; the old address then stops working. With a work or school account, the administrator may have turned this option off.

How SortYourMind does it

Reads Google Calendar, puts your chores in your free time

Through the secret iCal address SortYourMind reads when you are busy in Google Calendar. It writes nothing to your Google calendar: you see your SyMslots, the blocks in your free time, in SortYourMind. When your day changes, the app replans from now.

  • Read only: your Google calendar stays as it is
  • SyMslots around your appointments, priority 1 first
  • Also works with other calendars that have an iCal address
