Cleaning schedule
Cleaning rota for couples
A cleaning rota for couples works best when you share whole tasks, not single actions. Whoever has the bathroom also thinks about it, buys what it needs and does it. Choose a way to split: by room, swapping weekly or a set day each. Agree a moment to review it together after a month.
Three ways to share
| Way | How it works | Good if |
|---|---|---|
| By room | Each of you has fixed rooms, with everything that goes with them | You each care about different things |
| Swap every week | Week A one of you does the kitchen and bathroom, the other the rest; week B the other way round | Nobody wants to be stuck with the worst job |
| A set day each | One of you does the round on Tuesday, the other on Saturday | Your working hours are very different |
A sample rota for two
| Room | Person A | Person B | Together |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | Mop, fridge, oven (monthly) | Washing up after dinner | |
| Bathroom and toilet | Shower, toilet, floor, descaling (monthly) | ||
| Living room | Vacuum and dust | Ten-minute tidy | |
| Bedroom | Vacuum, bedding (every 2 weeks) | ||
| Laundry | Wash and hang out | Fold and iron | |
| Bins and shopping | Bins and recycling | Shopping list and shopping |
An example, not a rule. After a month, both note how much time it took and adjust.
The thinking counts too
Who remembers the bedding is due, who notices the toilet cleaner has run out? That invisible work is called the mental load. If you only share the doing, the thinking often stays with one person. With the mental load test you can see together in ten minutes where it sits.
- Write everything downUse the table above or the mental load checklist.
- Choose one owner per taskThe owner thinks of it, plans it and does it. The other one does not remind.
- Plan a short check-inFifteen minutes a week or a month, at a set time.
How SortYourMind does it
Each of you your own plan, around your own calendar
SortYourMind is not a shared task list. With the Family plan each person has their own account with their own plan, up to five accounts for 59 euros a year. Agree who takes which room; the app then plans each person's part around their own calendar.
- Your own rooms and routines
- Blocks in your own free time
- Replanning when your day changes
