Cleaning schedule
Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly cleaning
A cleaning schedule by rhythm puts every task on one of five lists: daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly. Daily is short, weekly is the main clean, and monthly covers the forgotten spots such as the oven and windows. Quarterly and yearly jobs are the deep cleans, spread over the months.
Daily
- Washing up or the dishwasher
- Wipe the worktops and table
- Ten-minute tidy in the living room
- Make and air the beds
- Food and water for pets
Weekly
| Room | Tasks |
|---|---|
| Kitchen | Mop, check the fridge, bins and recycling out |
| Bathroom | Shower or bath, mirror, floor, wash the towels |
| Toilet | Toilet and basin, floor |
| Living room | Vacuum, dust, plants |
| Bedrooms | Vacuum |
| Hall and stairs | Vacuum, shoes and coats |
| Laundry | Washing and ironing (more often with more people) |
Monthly
- Clean the oven
- Inside of the windows
- Drains in the bathroom and kitchen
- Descale the shower screen or wash the curtain
- Dishwasher and washing machine filters
- Door handles, switches and the banister
- Test the smoke alarms
Quarterly and yearly: the year at a glance
| Month | Deep cleans |
|---|---|
| January | Deep clean the fridge, cooker hood filter, sealant and grout, turn the mattress |
| February | Go through the cupboards under the stairs or in the loft |
| March | Spring clean: skirting boards, doors, light fittings; kitchen cupboards; swap the wardrobe |
| April | Curtains, outside of the windows, sealant and grout, turn the mattress |
| May and June | Get the patio and garden furniture ready |
| July | Deep clean the fridge, cooker hood filter, turn the mattress |
| September | Declutter cupboards and storage, swap the wardrobe |
| October | Put away the garden furniture, outside of the windows, sealant and grout, turn the mattress |
| November | Clear the gutters after the leaves fall |
| December | Keep it calm: just the usual schedule |
A suggestion. Move things around as you like: what matters is that every job has a set month, not which one.
How SortYourMind does it

- A weekly plan with priorities, always on the day you chose
- Weekly report: what got done and what was left
